Hands on neckNeck pain can stem from a variety of causes, such as poor posture from prolonged computer use, whiplash from car accidents, or repetitive strain from daily activities.

This type of discomfort is more than a nuisance—it’s a barrier to living your best life.

Getting to the Root

At Ritchie Chiropractic & Wellness, we go beyond providing simple adjustments to uncover the true source of your discomfort. Our multipronged approach focuses on precise diagnosis and targeted treatment, ensuring we address the root cause of your neck pain, not just the symptoms.

Many patients come to us wondering if their neck pain is related to poor sleeping positions or if it’s causing their frequent headaches. The truth is neck pain can have various underlying causes, from spinal misalignments to nerve irritation. That’s why we perform a thorough examination to pinpoint the exact source of your discomfort.

Advanced Techniques for Superior Results

Dr. Ritchie specializes in the Atlas Orthogonal upper cervical chiropractic technique, a cutting-edge approach that focuses on the critical junction between your head and neck. This precise method allows us to make gentle, specific adjustments to the upper cervical spine, often providing relief where other treatments have failed.

Our approach goes beyond the “crack and go” mentality you may have experienced at other chiropractic offices. We use state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and hands-on examinations to create a tailored treatment plan just for you. This may include chiropractic adjustments, targeted exercises, and advice on ergonomics and lifestyle modifications to support your healing process.

Addressing Related Issues

Neck pain often doesn’t exist in isolation. Many of our patients experience related issues such as headaches, migraines, or shoulder discomfort. At Ritchie Chiropractic & Wellness, we take a holistic view of your health, addressing these interconnected problems to provide lasting relief.

Dr. Ritchie’s expertise allows him to differentiate between various causes of neck pain, such as pinched nerves, muscle strains, or spinal misalignments. This precise diagnosis ensures you receive the most effective treatment for your specific condition, leading to faster and more lasting relief.

Moving Beyond 8 Years of Brace Dependence

When this 73-year-old patient came to us, she had worn a hard cervical brace all day for more than eight years. Her neck problems began in 2017, when a parking-garage security door struck her in the head. About a year later, she was diagnosed with cervical dystonia, and holding her head upright without support became a daily struggle.

She lived with constant neck and upper-back aching rated 6 out of 10, spasms at the base of her skull, and a dystonic pull to the right. Pain woke her at night. Prolotherapy, BOTOX® injections, massage, and other therapies hadn’t freed her from the brace.

What Her Examination Found

Her exam revealed forward head posture, a right head tilt, and cervical range of motion roughly half of normal, with extension severely limited. We also found muscle spasm through her neck and upper back and restricted joint motion from the atlas (the top vertebra) down through her spine and pelvis.

A Personalized Care Plan

Active care began in April 2026, centered on Atlas Orthogonal upper cervical chiropractic care. Her plan also included Impulse and Activator Method® adjusting, MLS laser therapy, electrical muscle stimulation, intersegmental traction, neuromuscular massage, and a home resistance-band program to build strength and head control.

Steady, Measurable Progress

After her first re-examination, visits were reduced to twice weekly. By her final re-exam in early July, her neck pain had dropped from a constant 6 out of 10 to a mild, intermittent 3 out of 10, and she estimated her overall improvement at 80%. Her morning neck pain was gone, turning her head was far less painful, and her low back had improved.

Life Beyond the Brace

She no longer needs her hard brace every day, using it only for gardening and driving. She can even play her flute for about 15 minutes without a collar.

Over the course of care, she reported meaningful changes in her neck pain, head control, and reliance on the brace.

Continuing With Maintenance Care

She has since transitioned to maintenance care and continues with her prescribed home exercise program. After more than eight years of relying on a brace, she now spends most of her days holding her head up without it.
This case reflects one patient’s experience. Individual results vary.
